From lab to lore: MGI student publishes Greek mythology-inspired debut novel

By Debbie Walton

Jade Le Bris, a first-year D.O.–Ph.D. student in MSU’s Department of Microbiology, Genetics, & Immunology has recently published her first novel, “All the Gold Between Us,” a fantasy inspired by Greek Mythology.

Jade Le Bris is a first-year D.O.-Ph.D. student and the author of “All the Gold Between Us.”

“It’s about a human girl who gets mistakenly abducted and taken to Mount Olympus, and the only chance she has to go back home is to compete in and win a tournament against the grandchildren of the Greek gods,” said Le Bris, “So, it’s a bit of a mix between The Hunger Games, Percy Jackson, and Lore, by Alexandra Bracken.”

Le Bris is originally from Brittany, France. She moved to the United States when she was 17 to attend St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she spent a gap year working on an online master’s program in Biomedical Sciences with the University of Northern Colorado before coming to MSU for medical school.

During that gap year, she decided to take the opportunity to write a book.

“I really wanted to write a book that I would have loved to read, and so that’s what I did,” said Le Bris. “I’ve been writing books for the past 15 years, but I never actually published any until this one."

Le Bris explained that she chose to self-publish so that she could have control over every detail of the creative process. “I wanted to really have a say in everything from the title, the story, to the cover. I decided to hire a cover illustrator and a cover designer, and I had some beta readers that gave me feedback. I did all of the writing, editing, and proofreading myself.”

The novel has been published in both English and French.

One Goodreads reviewer said, “I truly enjoyed reading this book. It is easy to read, has the right amount of action, suspense, and love. The story flows so well that it is hard to stop reading, and I reached the end of the book faster than what I would have liked. I highly recommend!”

The book is available for purchase online through multiple retailers such as Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Local booksellers can also order the book for purchase upon request.

Le Bris will be speaking at Hooked in Lansing at 2 PM on April 27th as part of a panel discussion with 5 local authors. The event is part of Independent Bookstore Day, and there will be a Q&A session as well as a book signing and giveaway.
